Rochester can be so crazy during the holidays. Many of us get so busy that it can be hard to find time to help those in need. Have no fear, holiday giving isn’t as hard as you think. There are many ways to volunteer and donate to great causes all over Rochester and the world. From raising money to donating toys and food, there’s a lot you can do to help those who are less fortunate. Here are some of the many ways to volunteer this year. Brighten up your holidays with great ways to give back!
1.) Community Charities
There are countless charities and local places to volunteer in Rochester; you won’t have a problem finding a way to help. To name a few: Toys for Tots, Salvation Army, Open Door Mission, Foodlink Rochester and Lollypop Farm. Lots of charities focus on helping out our local community however, many also help reach out globally. Elevating Christian Ministries does both and is currently hosting the first Annual Gratitude and Unity Dinner to serve over 2500 people at the Main Street Armory.
2.) Donate your Birthday
Volunteering at local charities is already a great feeling. Imagine you being able to pick a cause that you want to donate to even if it’s thousands of miles away. This is all possible through donating your birthday on Facebook. Getting your social network of friends together to share your passion and give back. It’s super simple to get your donation page set up, just use the fundraiser tab on your Facebook News Feed. What better way to celebrate your birthday than giving back to others.
Despite the many ways to volunteer in Rochester there are still countless more ways to help. So much so, that there is a whole day dedicated to the giving season; Giving Tuesday on November 28th! Celebrated the Tuesday after Thanksgiving among the craziness of the start to the shopping season, Giving Tuesday is the start of the charitable season. You can participate either individually or with a team (coworkers/ friends). Spread the word and help in a big or small way by bringing an extra sprinkle of warmth to the holidays.
This holiday season the best gifts often aren’t material ones. Small acts of kindness go a long way! Volunteer various ways around town, donate your birthday to the cause of your choice or be apart of Giving Tuesday. Make volunteering a new part of your holiday traditions.
